Designed by Siegal and Strain, the new 10,000 square feet Yountville town center, California is hoping to receive LEED Platinum certification. This new structure places a high priority on the integration of sustainable features throughout the building. The Yountville Town Center boasts an overall energy savings of 44% over California’s rigid Title 24 standards, and is a community haven hosting a branch library, multi purpose room, teen center, and meeting and program spaces.
Stand on a 2.5 acre site along Yountville’s main street, the building exteriors were designed to blend with the town’s rural character, all while maintaining interior spaces that are both light and airy. The materials were selected to minimize life cycle impact as well as to ensure the interior would be free of formaldehyde and VOCs. Energy efficient systems include ground source heat pumps for heating and cooling, as well as roof mounted photovoltaic laminates on both the new and existing buildings. Water conservation measures were taken into consideration throughout the project, with the use of low flow fixtures, rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation, sub surface irrigation and drought tolerant native plants.
