    As the winter winds begin to blow, we thought that our last goodbye to the things of the summer featuring Icelandic architect Glama-Kim Architects of modern, modular, eco-lodges are located in the west of Iceland in the city Stykkishólmur. Mathiesen Ólafur project architect has led the design, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape, and using easily available materials of construction combined with the ease and simplicity of design.

    Designed as a place of refuge for families of five contrast with full-time, fast-paced city life, Mathiesen has designed two separate rectangular volume, distinguishing between public and private sector homes with a choice of materials – cedar Warm, earth, gray, corrugated steel aluminum, respectively.

    Employing Western Red Cedar is the material of choice for the main house, measuring 4-13 meters, which includes the closed doors, open kitchen / living / dining area, bathroom and exterior storage space, while the small side-structure, measuring four feet by eight , containing the personal household function, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, and covered with a corrugated aluminum. A small wooden porch connecting the two houses in the southern area and has a sauna and jacuzzi.

    Interior finished with very little birch plywood, gypsum board painted on wood frames and oak floors. Water is heated by geothermal wells located on the property, the house keeping a moderate climate throughout the year.

    The larger of the two units built offsite and transported to the desired location (its size is determined by the size of the truck bed), while smaller units have been built in sections and assembled on site.
