Earlier this month, Mark Cavagnero, who just completed the renovation of the Oakland Museum, expresses a vision of SFJAZZ Center, the state’s first freestanding jazz concert hall. Space, which is scheduled to open in fall 2012, will be a concrete box, wrapped in a transparent structure of glass and steel on both sides of the public. “This is the idea that jazz is a world of contrasts, where the elements play with each other,” said Cavagnero. “So here we have the heavy and light, and we found a stronger balance between the two.
